Saturday 3/22/25 in Philadelphia was a magnificent

Saturday 3/22/25 in Philadelphia was a magnificent day of recitals on the Wanamaker Organ, culminating with a gala two-hour concert attended by perhaps a thousand people, many with personal histories to share of the old Wanamaker's department store that in recent years has been a Macy's. That ends Sunday 3/23/25 when space occupied by the now-barren Macy's gets a new owner. Organist Richard Peter Conte spoke lovingly of the great organ and offered hope that it's performances days are not over. Andrew Ennis on flugelhorn & organ.

Tugs move the SS United States down the Delaware River past the Navy Yard as the ship departs Philadelphia on Feb. 19, 2025, after nearly 30 years at Pier 82. After cleanup in Mobile, Alabama, plans call for it to be sunk as an artificial reef in the Gulf, off Destin/Fort Walton Beach, Florida. ©2025DGroff
